OUTREACH: HEIDELBERGER BRÜCKE IN COOPERATION WITH THE 4EU+ ALLIANCE From advocacy to action
How can Universities and Cities work together to achieve UN SDGs?
The question of cooperation between universities and cities in the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals was discussed by experts during the panel discussion moderated by Dr. Maximilian Jungmann in Alte Aula on May 15th, 2025. The aim of this special edition of the Heidelberger Brücke Colloquium, arranged in cooperation with the 4EU+ European University Alliance, was to promote the dialogue between researchers, political decision-makers, students, and committed citizens, and to open up new perspectives.
After the introductory keynote speeches by Prof. Dr. Géraldine Pflieger (University of Geneva) on "Cities at the forefront of climate action" and Prof. Dr. Natasha de Vere (University of Copenhagen) on "The importance of urban green spaces for the health and well-being of people and biodiversity," short inputs given by Prof. Dr. Ulrike Gerhard (University of Heidelberg) and Christian Hübel (City of Mannheim) led on to the expert panel discussion. Another highlight of the evening was a lively discussion with the audience in the final part of the event.
Following the public panel discussion, a roundtable discussion with guest speakers and interested academics focused on exploring the prospects of establishing regular events involving 4EU+ universities and their local cities, focusing on climate change and biodiversity loss.
