The City of Heidelberg, in collaboration with the Heidelberg Center for the Environment at Heidelberg University, has organized a lecture featuring Volker Quaschning!
In his lecture titled “Resilient Through Wind and Sun?”, Volker Quaschning explores the potential of renewable energy in times of global crises.
Prof. Quaschning explains in accessible terms the role that renewable energy can play in ensuring a secure, sustainable, and crisis-resilient energy supply. Among other things, he will address what an energy supply based on renewable energy might look like, the roles played by heat pumps, green hydrogen, storage systems, e-fuels, and gas-fired power plants, and what changes are necessary in the areas of electricity, heating, and transportation.
The climate crisis is the greatest threat to our world as we know it. If we want to preserve the foundations of our children’s lives, we need an energy supply based exclusively on renewable energy sources within half a generation. Scientists and industry have developed the solutions for us. We must all act together.

Volker Quaschning holds a degree in electrical engineering, earned his doctorate in photovoltaic systems, and received his habilitation on structures for a climate-friendly energy supply in 2000. He then served as project manager for solar system analysis at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Spain. Since 2004, he has been a professor of renewable energy systems at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences (HTW Berlin), where he also serves as the program director for the Renewable Energy degree program. Quaschning is also a co-founder of Scientists for Future and has authored hundreds of journal articles, conference papers, and presentations, as well as interviews and appearances on radio and TV. He has also written several books on the topic of renewable energy. Through his work, Volker Quaschning makes an important contribution to the development of a sustainable energy supply and the implementation of effective measures to combat the climate crisis.
