German Climate Consortium: Contribution by Dr. Maximilian Jungmann to the Petersberg Climate Dialogue
The German Climate Consortium (DKK) has published an article by HCE Executive Manager Dr. Maximilian Jungmann on the 2025 Petersberg Climate Dialogue, titled “The Rocky Road to Belém – Petersberg Climate Dialogue in Times of Geopolitical Tensions.” In it, he emphasizes the urgency of stronger climate-protection measures in light of rising global warming and mounting geopolitical challenges. Although significant progress has been made in expanding renewable energy, Jungmann warns of a deepening implementation crisis that international tensions only exacerbate. He calls for enhanced global cooperation and underscores the critical role of COP30 in Belém for establishing ambitious national climate commitments (NDCs). With the EU and the UK already announcing tougher targets, a clear shift toward Paris Agreement compliance is underway. Yet, Jungmann notes that we still face major gaps in implementation at international, national, and local levels. He views COP30 as an opportunity to focus global attention on the Amazon region’s climate-policy challenges and to elevate its protection at the heart of international negotiations.
