UN Academic Impact Hub  Sparking climate protection: Heidelberg joins UN network

Universität Heidelberg - represented by the HCE - Appointed Co-Vice-Chair for Research of the UN Academic Impact Hub on “SDG 13: Climate Action”

Heidelberg University has been named one of three European universities appointed to the United Nations’ “UN Academic Impact SDG Hubs” network. As part of this initiative, academic institutions around the world form cooperative alliances, known as “hubs”, for each of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), promoting joint action towards sustainable development. Heidelberg University has been appointed Co-Vice-Chair for Research of the SDG 13 Hub “Climate Action” and is represented in this role by the Heidelberg Center for the Environment (HCE), whose interdisciplinary research makes significant contributions to SDG 13.

The SDG Hubs of the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) initiative unite the research efforts of leading universities around the world in support of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. They highlight the central role of science in promoting sustainable development and implementing the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda. Heidelberg University, together with the Universidad Nacional de Rosario (Argentina), serves as Co-Vice-Chair for Research of the SDG 13 Hub, thereby helping to shape the scientific agenda on climate action. In collaboration with other universities, the aim is to strengthen international networks in climate research, initiate innovative research projects, and enhance the transfer of knowledge between academia, policy, and society.
