Preparation for Petersberg Climate Dialogue and World Climate Conference PETERSBERGER IMPULSE

On 24 March 2025, HCE Executive Manager Max Jungmann delivered a keynote on the state of the climate at the Petersberger Impulse event hosted by the Federal Foreign Office. This gathering serves as a central platform for exchanging climate‐policy strategies and measures in preparation for both the Petersberg Climate Dialogue and the UN Climate Change Conference (COP) in Belém. Organized by Climate Alliance Germany in cooperation with the Foreign Office, it brought together representatives from civil society, academia, business, youth movements, and think tanks.

The discussions focused on core climate‐policy challenges—most notably accelerating the green transition and mobilizing investments for it—while also addressing the specific needs of countries in the Global South. Participants debated which alliances will be essential to drive climate action forward, especially considering the United States’ renewed withdrawal from the Paris Agreement. They underscored the importance of deeper cooperation among nations with ambitious targets and highlighted COP30 as a critical opportunity to adopt concrete measures.

The event aimed to develop forward‐looking recommendations for the German federal government’s climate policy and to send strong impulses into the international climate negotiations.
