Zooming in on environmental action – the HCE moves forward
The event “Zooming in on Environmental Action – the HCE Moves Forward”, organized by the HCE, took place on 18 March and aimed to showcase current research projects, advanced training opportunities for doctoral candidates, and strategic objectives. A key highlight was the presentation of the Environmental Award by the Viktor and Sigrid Dulger Foundation. Dr. Patricia Nayna Schwerdtle was honored for her work “The Nexus of Climate Change, Migration and Health”, with a focus on Bangladesh, and Dr. Dagmar Brombierstäudl for her research “Exploring Aufeis in the Trans-Himalaya: Remote Sensing-Based Studies of a Neglected Cryosphere Component.”
The program covered a broad thematic spectrum – ranging from ecosystem restoration and its effects on biodiversity and food systems (“Restoring Nature”) to the public negotiation of justice in sustainability transitions. In addition to scientific topics, the event placed strong emphasis on knowledge transfer. The “Green Skills” panel explored interdisciplinary teaching approaches for environmental transitions, while the panel “From Knowledge to Action” discussed the implementation of scientific insights at local, national, and international levels. The event concluded with an outlook from the HCE on its future development and research priorities.
