The HCE “Heidelberg Bridge” Colloquium
The “Heidelberg Bridge” colloquium is a lecture series that creates a platform for interdisciplinary exchange and communication with the public. HCE Members, researchers and public speakers from the University of Heidelberg and beyond participate in the colloquium and share their expertise in an engaging and accessible way.

SUSTAINABLE PLANT CULTIVATION IN THE FACE OF CLIMATE CHANGE
The importance of biodiversity and, in particular, sustainable plant production for climate protection is the topic of the “Heidelberg Bridge” colloquium. The Heidelberg Center for the Environment (HCE) at Ruperto Carola invites you to attend. Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Jelkmann from the Julius Kühn Institute, the Federal Research Institute for Cultivated Plants, will speak at the start of the series "Sustainable Plant Cultivation in the Face of Climate Change". In his lecture on April 26, 2023, he will talk about the effects of changing climatic conditions on viticulture. The total of four events in this summer semester will take place online on Wednesdays. The livestream will begin at 5 p.m. each day. Recordings are available on heiONLINE, Heidelberg University's central portal for lectures, discussions and events in digital formats.

Bio: Prof. Jelkmann is a renowned agricultural scientist and Director of the Institute for Plant Protection in Fruit Growing and Viticulture at the Julius Kühn-Institut (JKI), Federal Research Institute for Cultivated Plants in Germany. His research focuses on plant defense mechanisms against pests and diseases and the development of sustainable crop protection strategies. Wilhelm Jelkmann serves on various national and international committees and has received numerous awards for his achievements in agricultural science.

Bio: Dr. Giurca is a Senior Researcher at the European Forest Institute (EFI) in Bonn, Germany. His research focuses on the analysis of forest ecosystems and their services in different regions of the world, and on the development of strategies to improve forest sustainability and resilience. Alex Giurca has worked on several international research projects in the field of forest ecosystems and is recognized as an expert in forest management and policy. He has published numerous scientific articles and reports and has been involved in the development of policies and recommendations for sustainable forest management.

Bio: Dr. Hurst is the head of regional innovation management in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. Among other things, she deals with the networking of central actors in the field of bioeconomy in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region.

Prof. Tosun is Professor of Political Science at the University of Heidelberg and Deputy HCE Director. Her research focuses on comparative politics, environmental policy and governance, and European integration. Jale Tosun has published widely in leading political science journals and leads numerous national and international research projects. Prof. Koch is a biologist and professor of biodiversity and plant systematics at the University of Heidelberg. His research focuses on evolutionary biology and plant systematics, particularly in the study of biodiversity and phylogeny. He has published numerous papers in leading scientific journals and is a member of several scientific societies and committees. He also coordinates numerous national and international research projects.
